Joey Racano For City Council 2004

About the candidate:

Please allow me to introduce myself. I'm Joey Racano, and this is my third run for council. I am a 13-year Huntington Beach resident, an armed forces veteran, and an environmental activist.

Let me tell you where stand on the issues and why you should vote for me:

·Clean Water-
As a founding member of the Ocean Outfall Group, I had a leadership role in stopping the dreaded `301h' WAIVER that used to allow Orange County Sanitation District to dump the dirtiest sewage in the nation just off our coast. Visit for more info.

As a Democratic Party State Central Committee Delegate, I authored the Heritage Tree State Resolution to protect the last of California's Old-Growth trees. The resolution was accepted by the delegation at the 2003 State Convention in Sacramento.

In 2000, I took on the city, the developers and the Coastal Commission at Little Shell Wetland, and prevailed. Please visit this small coastal jewel (California's newest preserve!) next to the beautiful Hyatt Resort.

·Fiscal responsibility-
Unlike many others, I am appalled by the fact that despite a 350 million dollar budget, our city is broke!

·Trouble shooter-
I have an excellent sense of direction, and a clear plan for setting us back on track.

Some of my priorities are:

·1. Addressing the city's low-income housing portfolio deficit by recognizing Mobile Home Parks as Low Income Housing.

·2. Bringing the AES Power Plant into full, strict and immediate compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act. They owe us 1.6 million in SEHB redevelopment funds, and all they give is bacteria (390,000 total coliform!)

·3. No Desalination Plant in Southeast HB or anywhere else on our precious coast! Desal is NO PAL!

·4. Expanded library hours and access for our public, and free `Wi-Fi' for library patrons, young and old.

·5. Bringing our Mobile Home Conversion Ordinance up to date.

There are many other issues I am passionate about, like restoring free trash removal for low-income seniors, a city-wide recycling program, saving all of Bolsa Chica and restoring water flow to our local wetlands.
