Dear Ocean Outfall Group (OOG), dedicated to ending the 301(h) waiver held by the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD):

Well, if you thought our work was finished, think again. Now comes the hard part of implementation and oversight, as well as related goals of dealing with other sources of ocean pollution including urban runoff and leaky sewer pipes. For example, advocating for natural treatment systems and constructed wetlands as proposed by the Irvine Ranch Water District, would help not only with cleaning up urban runoff before it reaches the ocean, but would also help restore our depleted natural resources like fresh water wetlands and rivers. OCSD can play a part in all of this, and since they have the money, it's up to the public to see that they use this money wisely and for its intended purposes.

First on the agenda is this week's upcoming PDC (Planning, Design, Construction) meeting at OCSD administrative offices, usual place, 10844 Ellis Ave, Fountain Valley. This will be the first meeting that we will hear reports from OCSD General Manager Blake Anderson and

others about what transpired on July 17 and how they plan to implement the Board's resolution to increase level of treatment and get rid of the waiver. Also, it will give us a chance at Public Comments to thank the Board for their vote and offer to stay engaged in the process and reach for further goals like a more timely implementation shorter than 11 years, and a faster exit from the use of bleach in favor of UVL disinfection. Now that we have had a taste of success, we should build on it so that we can achieve a cleaner ocean faster.

Attached is the agenda for the PDC meeting on Thursday, 5 PM. Hope to see you there and at future OCSD Committee and Board meetings.
