Dear OOG, SEHBNA, et al:

Congratulations to all and a big thank you to the Huntington Beach City Council for denying the EIR for the Poseidon desalination proposal Monday night. It was clear that there were too many unanswered questions to approve such an important matter.

As indicated in the newspapers today, however, the desal battles are not over and the OCWD (Orange Coast Water District) is discussing the matter tonight at its meeting at 5 PM. The agenda report is at link:

In my opinion, OCWD and public ownership and operation of desal facilities are far superior to a private venture such as Poseidon, with less secrecy, more public oversight, more public trust, more security, more openess and more transparency than a private venture like Poseidon.

When you look back at the recent Poseidon hearings, you notice how Poseidon would not disclose its lease with AES, its coyness with business contracts with water suppliers and MWD reports, and what happened at Tampa Bay, with Tampa Bay alleging lack of full disclosure by Poseidon, while Poseidon denying it all. Simply stated, it boils down to a matter of trust, and Tampa Bay warns people to take a close look at Poseidon when considering a business relationship with it.

If you can, attend the OCWD meeting tonight. AES is still a bad location for even a public desal operation, so we must stay active and engaged.
