TO; The Honorable Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany
To the Honorable Chancellor Angela Dorothea Merkel,July 19, 2003
On behalf of a civilized America, I want to apologize to you for the insulting way that George W. Bush treated you at the G-8 summit. The pictures of him attempting to give you a "back massage" have been sent around the world on the Internet. As an American, I am ashamed that the man who in the White House has behaved so badly. Please know that many Americans, including myself, believe that he gained power in 2000 and 2004 through fraud and trickery, and that many of the election machines were "hacked" and otherwise manipulated, and that he does not represent the best in our people. In fact, this man is a disgrace to the 800 years of history of Anglo-Saxon efforts to create a democracy. People in this country are well aware that his grandfather, Prescott Bush, had many business arrangements with p ro-Nazi bankers and supplied cyanide gas to Adolph Hitler.
In any event, his behavior was no way to treat an honorable woman and a head of state such as youself. His countenancing of Israeli aggression this week in the Middle East, as well as his use of indecent language is a disgrace to my country, and I hang my head in shame as an American for his despicable behavior. I am proud of my own German heritage, and I hope you will know that we are honorable people, and know how to treat a highly respectable woman such as yourself. Please do not think that all Americans are all like him, Chancellor Merkel.
I also wish to congratulate Germany for its non-support of our illegal invasion of Iraq. When your country refused to assist in the devastation of that unfortunate nation, I knew that you had indeed put the dark legacy of the Reich firmly behind you. It is sad that George W. Bush has not.

On behalf of a civilized America, I want to apologize to you for the condescending way that George W. Bush treated you as I have seen the pictures of him giving you a back massage. That is no way to treat a head of state as you discuss issues of global interests. In this week where he discussed pigs as the Middle East lights up due to our aggression as well as Israel’s to his use of expletives and seeing the way he treated you, I hang my head in shame as an American for his despicable behavior. As a person of German heritage, we are honorable people, and respectful ones at that. When I looked at those pictures that are finding their way around the Internet, the only thing I could do was to cringe in embarrassment. Please do not think that all Americans are that way, Chancellor Merkel, because we are not. Lastly, as we do see the Middle East light up with Bush’s support of the bloodshed that continues, once again I must congratulate Germany for its non-support of our illegal invasion of Iraq. When your country refused to aid, George W. Bush that is when I puffed my chest out in pride of my German heritage.
