Operation Firing For Effect
Is firing for effect!

Thursday, March 16, 2007
From: Gene D. Simes, President VFVC / National Chairman OFFE

Subject:  Patriots and Operation Firing For Effect Supporters

As early as our founding fathers, our nation recognized the need to support and honor those who protect and insure the freedoms we enjoy as stewards of this great land.

We as a nation hold dear the sacrifices they have made.

Whenever our government fails to keep its promises to the men and women who wear the uniforms of our Armed Forces it fails us all.

Indeed this week our government failed us all, this week the Department of Veterans Affairs denied our soldiers and our veterans’ healthcare that they depend on in Canandaigua, New York. This week Secretary Nicholson closed the doors of the acute psychiatry unit that served the heroes that kept their promise to serve and protect this great nation and the Constitution of the United States of America. He failed to keep a sacred promise made by this nation’s government, a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Thousands understand what breaking this promise means:

Indeed all of the supporters of the Operation Firing for Effect 2008 who have voiced their support for Mandatory Funding understand that the Department of Veterans Affairs is denying services to those who have honorably served this nation in the Armed Forces of the United States. They understand that through it’s downsizing and reorganization in the name of budget cuts and shortfalls it short changes these men and women by moving healthcare out of their reach denying them local access to the services they need.

The buck stops here: Operation Firing for Effect demands that the Department of Veterans Affairs re-open the Acute Psychiatry Unit in Canandaigua and restore all services to the veterans that depend on it or will depend on it for their care.

In the name of our supporters we demand that action be ordered now…

Our friends have been steadfast through our fight to keep the Canandaigua VA a full service facility; we have battled to insure it remain a full service hospital for the veterans of Western New York. So that they have the healthcare they deserve.

Senator Schumer, Senator Clinton, Representative Slaughter and many other elected officials have stood side by side with us to insure Washington heard our battle cries. Their support has been tireless and without compromise to say the least.

When all looked like the battle would be lost, one man, Eric Massa from the 29th Congressional District refused to give up and heralded our case at home and in Washington. He refused to accept defeat. He made sure that Washington understood that our veterans would leave no man behind.

He understood that bad decisions should be never be made.
And he knew this decision was bad.

As the battled is reborn in Canandaigua we thank those who have led the charge in the name of our nations heroes, without their support our cries would have fallen on deaf ears, without them the Department of Veterans Affairs would have walked away from the promise that was made so many years ago. And they would never have looked back.

To those thousands who helped make our voices heard, to those who have supported the men and women who have served and those who will serve in the future…

Operation Firing for Effect salutes you, and from the hearts of each Veteran, we thank you for standing as one.
