No. 1298-05 IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dec 15, 2005 Media Contact: (703)697-5131 Public/Industry (703)428-0711

Dr. William Winkenwerder, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, on FDA Anthrax Vaccine Ruling "Today, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a final order reaffirming previous conclusions that the anthrax vaccine prevents anthrax resulting from any route of exposure, including inhalation anthrax.

"In light of the final order, the department will review program options. The military services will continue anthrax vaccinations as they have since April 2005 on a voluntary basis for eligible servicemembers with the option to refuse.

"Scientific experts over the years have consistently found this vaccine to be safe and effective. The FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Academy of Sciences all agree that anthrax vaccine protects against all forms of anthrax and is as safe as other vaccines.

"The department's safety record in administering the vaccine has been excellent and open to public scrutiny.  Defense experts publish papers in scientific journals and regularly collaborate with the CDC, the FDA and civilian expert groups on vaccine safety projects.

"The threat of anthrax as a weapon remains real. It is very important to provide our servicemembers with maximum protection against this threat, particularly when operating in certain areas of the world.

"For people at increased risk of exposure, the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks when all factors are considered.  Vaccination against anthrax is the best round-the-clock protection available to protect our forces at risk."

This is what the FDA, CDC, and National Academy of Sciences, all say is as safe as other vaccines:
1.) http://www.nti.org/d_newswire/issues/2005_12_5.html
20,000 Post-Vaccination Hospitalizations Unreported
The U.S. Defense Department failed to report to Congress more than 20,000 hospitalizations of military personnel who received anthrax vaccinations between 1998 and 2000, the Newport News, Va., Daily Press reported yesterday (see GSN, Dec. 2).

2.) Senator Frist, CNN: Dec. 18, 2001: "The vaccine is a dated vaccine, it's an old vaccine. There are very real and potentially serious side effects from the vaccine and anyone who elects to receive the vaccine needs to be made aware of that. (Randi note: This is the same guy pushing for liability protections for this manufacturer, and others like it)

3.) President Bush, September 2000: "The Defense Department's Anthrax Immunization Program has raised numerous health concerns and caused fear among the individuals whose lives it touches.

4.) http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d02445.pdf page 26: " In November 2001, DOD reported that after more than 2 million doses of anthrax vaccine had been administered to more than 522,000 people, only 1,685 VAERS reports were submitted for possible adverse events associated with the vaccine. In contrast, the approximately 380 shot recipients in our survey disclosed more than 6,000 reactions (almost 1,300 of which were systemic) from slightly more than 1,300 shots. (Randi Note: VAERS is passive - the study that GAO did was active.)

5.) http://www.timesleader.com/mld/timesleader/news/nation/13368280.htm Quarterly analysis of the vaccine's effects ended just as the nation's only manufacturing site for the drug regained its license. That was in 2002, after federal inspections found many safety and other problems that prompted a shutdown and renovation that began in early 1998. The decision to discontinue the quarterly health monitoring program means that the biggest gap in research about the vaccine remains: There are no systematic long-term studies of the health of those who've taken the drug.

Randi note: This is corruption at its worst. This current anthrax vaccine is what is stockpiled for the American populace. One needs to wonder with all the data on adverse events that has been hid on military personnel, which is slowly coming out, what may actually transpire if this vaccine is used on the US population. If the goal is to create a crippled nation, they will succeed. The FDA, bedfellow with the DoD, is blatantly showing more and more everyday that they no longer protect the public.
